New Year’s Eve is the best time to plan out the year ahead, and make some promises to yourself and those around you. 

We’ve prepared a list of 20 New Year’s resolutions for those who want their businesses to grow and prosper in 2022. 

1. Stop procrastinating! 

We’ve all been there, done that, and it’s time to change. No matter how much you want those extra 40 minutes on TikTok to count towards your ‘social media trends research’, it does not. Quit lying to yourself: admit that you’re not actually being productive and get a grip on yourself. It’s okay to take breaks in between active brainstorming sessions, assigning tasks, and handling your daily workload, but they need to be timed and structured.

2. Set SMART goals for the day and organize your time effectively. 

Modern business people often complain about needing the 25th hour in a day to be able to finish everything they’ve planned. Spoiler alert: a 24-hour day is more than enough if you manage to allocate it correctly. 

The reason why you’re not doing as much as you wish is that you don’t set clear goals. Lack of direction leads to a loss of focus throughout the day. If you want to do more while stressing less, you should adopt the habit of starting each day with a journaling session. 

Document everything you want to do in the next 12 hours, including everyone you need to interact with to complete those tasks, and how long it would take. Make sure your goals are SMART, though, i.e. specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound.

3. Get off the highway to a burnout and learn to delegate tasks. 

In 2022, learn to trust your leadership skills to assign tasks, and your team to complete them. As a leader, you should only guide your team members, not do their job for them, even if you believe that no one does it like you. 

There’s a reason you hired those people — they’ve already proven their skills to you; they can get the job done, and they can do it well. So, don’t step in until there’s a real need for you to do so. Otherwise, you’ll end up stalling the growth of your business due to a lack of resources, ruining relationships with your colleagues, and burning yourself out.

4. Quit using spreadsheets for everything; it’s ain’t the 90s anymore. Implement a reliable CRM solution instead.

In the past, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software used to be nothing more than a quirky whim of some business owners. Today, it’s a must-have tool for every entrepreneur that wants to grow their business.

5. Show the whys of the business, not just the whats.

They’ve realized the power they hold over businesses, and are looking for something bigger than the tangible product or service they get for the money they pay. They’re interested in all the added value you can provide — they’re seeking a genuine relationship. 

So, if you want to increase your sales in 2022, you should stop trying to sell. Focus less on the product itself and more on the benefits it can bring to anyone who buys it. 

Start a conversation with your audience, show them more of who you are and what you stand for. Just make sure that everything you do is genuine — in 2022, we strive for maximum authenticity as it’s the key to organic growth

6. Commit to posting more video content. 

The video format is hot in 2022. Businesses that get it, get it; businesses that don’t — don’t. Make sure your company is up there among the entrepreneurial ‘it girls’. 

Let’s look at the stats…

  • By mid-2022, online videos will make up more than 82% of all consumer internet traffic — 15 times higher than it was in 2017.
  • 72% of customers said they would rather learn about a product or service by way of video, and 84% of people say they’ve been convinced to buy a product or service by watching a brand’s video.
  • Viewers retain 95% of a message when they watch it in a video, compared to 10% when reading it in the text.
  • Marketers who use video grow revenue 49% faster than non-video users.

It’s apparent that video did, indeed, kill the radio star. And if you don’t focus on incorporating the video format into your marketing activities, it might kill your business, too. It’s a risk not worth taking; especially since videos are super easy to get a hold of if you have the right tools.

But having one would make it significantly easier to grow your business. 

So, in 2022, you should consider expanding your network. Set the goal of connecting with one influencer every week of the upcoming year, and — if successful — by the end of 2022, you’ll be left with 52 more people to turn to when you need a helping hand. 

There are numerous ways to connect with these people. For example, you can…

  • Send an email.
  • Send a connection request on LinkedIn.
  • Attend a webinar.
  • Attend an offline networking event.

10. Stop limiting your business to a single platform. 

The same way there are loads of platforms to connect with influencers, there are also loads of platforms to connect with your target audience. In 2022, the omnichannel approach to marketing is hot, so make sure your business goes beyond using a single platform as a home for all brand communications.

Set up an account on all mainstream platforms such as Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, and TikTok — and commit to developing them, even if it takes a couple of extra hires to the social media marketing team. But don’t stop there; watch out for any other emerging platforms. Those often have a lot of potential, we’ve learned this from TikTok.

11. Get more out of the content you’ve already produced by repurposing it.

If you see a trend you can hop on, don’t miss out on the opportunity to be the first mover and get the advantages of being an avant-garde brand.

13. Don’t stop learning — start a course, read a book, subscribe to a newsletter. 

The best way to stay updated about emerging trends and everything else that’s happening in the world is to dedicate time to learning. 

Make sure you save some time in 2022 for self-development and commit to reading industry news every day, for at least half an hour.

14. Make use of AI — even if you think it’s scary and complicated, trust us, it’s not. 

AI and Machine Learning can be scary and complicated. But only if you make them out to be. 

The belief that robots will take over the world and rob people of their jobs is nothing more than a myth. AI is, indeed, taking over the business world, but it’s not here to harm — it’s here to help. Thanks to AI, you can make your work life much easier. 

There are already AI tools that can:

  • Enhance your copywriting.
  • Improve your personalization and segmentation.
  • Better your designs, and more!

15. Allocate more of your budget on paid advertising.

Nowadays, the media landscape is extremely crowded, and it’s not going to get any better in 2022. Organic awareness is no longer enough to break through the clutter. Therefore, to raise brand awareness, you need to pair your organic growth tactics with robust investments in paid media.  

By incorporating paid advertising into your marketing strategy, you’ll get a chance to reach a wider audience and, therefore, get more sales. Besides, there are always options when it comes to paid ads:

  • Paid social media post
  • Display ads 
  • Paid search results
  • Video ads
  • Search engine marketing, etc. 

16. Make sure your brand is social on social media.

The idea behind social media is to prompt two-way communication. As a business on a social media platform, you need to adhere to that rule and engage with your audience, rather than exist online separately from your followers. 

This means…

  • Provide more helpful content and less promotional content.
  • Respond to every comment — never ignore your audience, especially not when there’s a complaint. 
  • Show the person behind the brand. Don’t hide behind a polished logo and proofread posts. Go live, show your team, and give your followers some behind-the-scenes content.

17. Clean up your mailing list. 

Email lists decay at an average rate of 22.5% to 30% every year.

Unless you clean your mailing list out every now and then, it’s likely that one-fourth of it is disengaged subscribers, addresses that no longer exist, and misspelled email addresses. They contribute to the overall number (and stroke your ego whenever you look at your hefty subscribers list), but they don’t contribute to your email marketing success.

In fact, they are hindering it. Dirty email lists are the cause of bounces, which, in turn, can harm the sender’s reputation and get your domain banned. 

So, make sure you scrub your list regularly in 2022. 

18. Let go of dead weight — kill off the content that doesn’t perform well, even if you love it wholeheartedly. 

Since we’ve already touched on the subject of trimming fat, make sure you let go of the content that doesn’t do you any good.

Even if it once was your star, those days are gone. Either give this piece of content a makeover or bury it in the digital graveyard. Otherwise, it might bring your whole brand down (keyword cannibalization is a real thing!).

19. Stop playing it safe all the time. 

Take risks, you might not have another opportunity to do the things you want to do. Of course, those risks should be calculated, and all the most important decisions must be backed with data… But when it matters the most, don’t chicken out. 

20. Have fun!

Remember that you are in the field because you like it. No matter how challenging it may get, cut yourself some slack and keep going!
